Oak Wilt Found in Brooklyn

A disease that was thought to be isolated to regions outside of the city has been identified as attacking an oak in Greenwood Cemetery.  We are looking to get the word out to any client, tree care company, arborist, or person on the street to not prune your oak trees or make live wood cuts between April 15th and July 15th.

There is no treatment for this as of now.  The wilt is vectored by a bark beetle which is attracted to wounded trees.  Should a beetle arrive from an actively infected tree and land on an open would, the pathogen could be introduced and cause tree death in 1-6 months.
